It's always interesting comparing my initial pencil art with the completed (but still black and white) ink artwork that results from an hour or two of hard graft; and seeing how much - or how little - actually changes 'tween one stage and 'tother. Aside from Timmy's conversion from kissy-lipped fish person to eager young space cadet, my artwork for this illustration was tight and finished-looking enough for me to have to do little more than neaten up the linework, make sure blocky and / or angular things respected the laws of ruled lines and 90 degree angles, and add some extra details to the rocket and surrounding environment. In situations where my pencil sketch is looser and more scribbly, I often have to put quite a bit more work into dragging things into line; often to the extent of largely ignoring wonky bits of anatomy and detailing and inking them in on the fly based on what they should actually look like! Still, it all works out in the end....
