Hey, don't laugh - back in the early 2000's, the potential to see a superhuman as powerful and awe-inspiring as the Incredible Hulk brought to life through something more impressive than a bodybuilder in green body paint was truly an exciting prospect! As Artie and Gene no doubt have grasped here, with CGI there would be no need to use trick shots, or fudge things to get around budgetary restraints - the Hulk would be truly incredible, and he could smash as much as he wanted, however he wanted! Yes, the VFX looks a bit ropey nowadays, and the movie's plot is a bit.... overdone; but y'know? 2003? It was all-new, all-different then! Interesting behind-the-scenes fact: this was one of the comics I came up with the idea for before I'd actually seen the movie - so in the final panel, Bruce Banner was originally facing down a mugger (demanding money, obviously) in a grimy alley. However, post-movie viewing-age, I realised that if I swapped the mugger for jerkface Army-guy Glen Talbott, his knife for a taser, a demand for money for a demand for Hulk DNA, and the alley for a military bunker, I'd be able to reference an actual scene from the film! Yep, exactly the same as my original idea - just completely different.
