Boy oh boy, do I love me a good Japanese monster movie! There's nothing better than watching a rubber-costumed behemoth venting his (or her, if it's Mothra) existential angst on a selection of blatantly-cardboard skyscrapers; especially if I can then do a satire of it. I've done kaiju stories before - in particular, at least three Genezilla tales - but for this one, I decided to go all out! Given that it was A) a crossover story, and B) a movie-story-within-a-movie-story, I decided to pack every single cliche and trope from the genre into one epic homage. Although the 'Serpents of Old meets Cosmos' framing sequence was in colour, Reptyllon itself was presented in old-school 1950's black and white; complete with a carefully-researched-and-replicated Toho Films pastiche logo. Professor Pod, of course, has stepped up to the plate as the token science expert - although whether he let Gene film in his mad science lab, or insisted they make a film set instead, I have no idea (My money's on the latter). The story itself is told at least partly in the style of a movie trailer - hence the narration - but with enough of the actual plot of the movie for it to have an actual ending by page 5....
